06 February 2020
Today’s announcement that Keith Pitt MP, will become the new Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, has been welcomed by the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.
"We look forward to working with Minister Pitt. As a parliamentarian from regional Queensland he understands the economic and social benefits mining and mineral exploration brings to the regions,"says AMEC Chief Executive Officer, Warren Pearce.
"First on our agenda, will be working with the Minister to extend the highly successful Junior Mineral Exploration Incentive (JMEI), begun by his predecessor, Minister Canavan."
“I also need to thank Senator Matt Canavan, for the excellent job he has done as Resources Minister,”
“He has been a fierce advocate for our industry within Government, and a proud champion of our industry to the community.”
“As Minister, he oversaw the introduction of the $100m Junior Mineral Exploration Incentive (JMEI) critical to supporting greenfields exploration and the discovery of new mineral deposits and future mines.”
“He has also overseen the delivery of the Exploring for the Future program, and has been a major driver of pursuing Australia’s Critical and Battery minerals opportunity and the pursuit of local value adding.”
“It has been a privilege to work with him on behalf our members and our industry, and we look forward to his continued support in the Senate,” said Mr Pearce.
