Darryl Daisley, Director at PwC along with Hannah Sheehan and Melissa Camilleri, will discuss the Fuel Tax Credits scheme, which provides businesses with a credit for the fuel tax (excise or customs duty) included in the price of fuel used in business activities, including those in the mining and exploration sectors. They will cover key compliance requirements, such as accurate record-keeping and understanding eligible fuel uses, which are often misunderstood. Darryl, Hannah and Melissa will also highlight the current regulatory landscape and the steps being taken by the ATO to ensure compliance and accurate claims. These insights will be valuable for companies already claiming Fuel Tax Credits, as well as those looking to determine their eligibility and maximise their entitlements under the scheme.
Daniel Knox, a Partner in PwC’s R&D & Government Incentives practice, will outline how the R&D Tax Incentive can support real-world innovation in the mining and exploration sectors, including through the lens of key compliance requirements that are often misunderstood (e.g., the ‘exploration exclusion’ and feedstock adjustment rules). Daniel will also shed light on the current regulatory landscape and the steps being taken by Aus Industry and the ATO to review the eligibility of claimed R&D activities and costs (including whether these can be substantiated with evidence). These insights will be of benefit to companies already accessing the R&D Tax Incentive, as well as those interested in confirming their suitability for the program.
