AMEC’s Resources Hub is designed to support the mineral exploration and mining industry and drive genuine change. With increasing awareness and priority for safety, both physical and psychosocial, we hope these resources can assist a variety of operations.
The safety of our industry’s workers and workplaces is the utmost priority for AMEC, our members, and our broader industry. Across Industry, we have seen a range of practical, genuine improvements being undertaken, and AMEC is committed to working with members to enact positive change.
The initiatives, examples and ideas featured in AMEC’s Resources Hub are intended to facilitate a range of different measures and considerations, scalable to the size and nature of various organisations across the sector, in a risk-based manner. We understand there is no one-size-fits all approach, so there is a range of measures for consideration and resources which can be tailored to suit your organisation’s needs.

AMEC, through Parabellum International, has developed an “Explorer Reference Pack”, a range of practical resources to support mineral explorers to transition to Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation under the WA Government’s WHS Peak Body Grant Program. Mine Safety Management Systems (MSMS) under r622 of the WHS (Mines) Regulations require all exploration and mining operations to develop and maintain a MSMS including principal mining hazard management plans, risk assessment, and health and safety policies to address physical and psychosocial risks.
AMEC’s Explorer Reference Pack contains templates for risk assessment, Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) resources, mines risk register, health and safety policy, incident report form, job hazard analysis, mine emergency response plan, psychosocial incident investigation flowchart, sexual harassment checklist, sexual harassment policy, and daily site inspection forms to assist our members to create their own safety systems.
AMEC, through the WHS Foundation, has developed a WHS Legal Examination Preparatory Course for Statutory Supervisors.
As per Schedule 26 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WHS Mines Regulations) WA, all Statutory Supervisors will be required to complete mandatory risk management training and a legal examination by 31 March 2026. The Government has estimated the remaining 15,000 Statutory Supervisors need to complete the training and examination.
AMEC has developed this course as part of our grant funding under the WA Government’s WHS Peak Body Grant Program, to provide our members with a free of charge, accessible legal examination preparatory course. This course is intended to complement training, exam preparation and study, to prepare for the exam.
A downloadable copy of the course content is available here.
AMEC, through Parabellum International, has developed a “Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) Audit Tool”, a self-audit tool to help companies review their safety requirements under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation under the WA Government’s WHS Peak Body Grant Program.
MSMS under r622 of the WHS (Mines) Regulations require all exploration and mining operations to develop and maintain a MSMS including principal mining hazard management plans, risk assessment, and health and safety policies to address physical and psychosocial risks.
The mining and mineral exploration industry prioritises the safety, both physical and psychosocial, of our workers and workplaces. While our industry’s safety standards are stringently regulated, ensuring safety, remains at the forefront of our operations. AMEC members continue to implement a wide range of actions to address risks to the safety and wellbeing of our workers and workplaces, and are committed to eliminating sexual harassment, assault, bullying and discrimination from our industry.
AMEC is working with Government, other industry associations, and our member companies to address the unacceptable behaviours brought to light in the WA Parliamentary Inquiry into sexual harassment against women in the FIFO mining industry. Our response and ongoing actions have been developed in consultation with our membership, particularly through AMEC’s Safety Committee.
The below table outlines the breadth of actions already being taken by AMEC and AMEC member companies, which seek to address the recommendations of the ‘Enough is Enough’ Report.
